Just Dance

On rainy days like today, when we are stuck inside, we need to get out our energy somehow!

So we "Just Dance"! It is hilarious watching the students copy the dance moves! I can't believe what great dancers I have!

Here is the Just Dance we did today! It fits with our Halloween theme of the week!

Halloween Story Teller

Today we had a frightful and fantastic morning while listening to a story teller who told us some spooky Halloween stories! The kids had a blast! They were so into the stories (and so was I)! :)

We listened to a story about  "A Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything"! We then made our own props and we retold the story. "Retelling" is going to be our next focus in Language! Over the weekend, have your child retell the story with their cutouts that they brought home! Also, here is a link to a song that helps tell the story!

Have a great weekend! Don't forget to read your B.E.A.R books and to do your math homework! There is a homemade ruler and a meausring sheet in the important bag for homework!

See you all on Monday! :)

Kindness Pays Off!

popcorn-clip-art-8
Since September, we have been trying to fill up our bucket with "kindess kernels". Kindness kernels are earned when I see students being kind to eachother, when I see respect, responsibility, and when I see the class following our classroom rules!

We have finally filled it up and so tomorrow we will be having a popcorn party to celebrate all the kindness Room 10 has been showing!

I love what I am seeing - keep it up! :)

Making Connections

One of our reading comprehension strategies that we have been perfecting is "making connections"! While we read, we have been making connections to our own life, to other books we have read, and to the community around us. Making connections helps us better understand the story and allows us to relate to how the characters in the book are feeling.

We recently read a book called "I'm Not Invited?" We wrote super sentences about times we felt disappointed or left out.

I hope you all had a great weekend, and I am looking forward to seeing your smiling faces in the morning! :)

Measuring Homework

Great job meausring with a ruler today Grade 2's! We measured items around the room using centimeters (cm). They did a fantastic job! Just remember to always place your ruler at 0! Over the weekend, your homework is to practice your measuring skills at the website below! Have fun!

Have a safe and happy weekend!

Don't forget to read your B.E.A.R book!

Amazing Artists

Today in Art, we learned about a famous artist who painted in "squares". We looked at a lot of his work and decided to make masterpieces of our own!

We also learned about "Cool" colours and "Warm" colours! Ask your child about these colours! They can tell you which colours are cool and warm!

I was totally impressed with all of my little artists!

Super Sentences

Super Sentences

We have been working on making super sentences. These sentences need the following:
*Capitals
*Punctuation (.!?)
*Spaces
*Spelling (our word wall words are the most important)
*Detail
*Describing Words

For each one they complete, they get a star! They are striving to get 6 stars! So far I have seen GREAT results. The stars are something to work towards and I am seeing improvements! I am so proud of you super sentence makers!

Keep it up kiddies!

Above is an example of a 6 star student! :)

Our song this week is called "Canada in  my Pocket" - it is all about our Canadian Coins! Perfect for our math unit!

If you Youtube - Canada in my Pocket by Michael Mitchell- you can sing along with the song!

Money Money Money

We have been busy working with money - this can be such a difficult concept for some children. Please practice at home, every chance that you can. The names/values of coins, and sums up to 100 cents.

Here are a few online games to practice! Real life practice is even better!

Million $ Words

Along with our "Words of the Week" homework (the newsletter was sent home today), we learn a Million Dollar Word each week.  These words help us expand our vocabulary so we can add more description when we write. When doing your homework with the words of the week, you may also include the million dollar word. I am not concerned about the spelling of this word, but that they understand the meaning!

This week our word is famished!

Goodluck with your homework tonight! Don't forget to read!
